Our vision is to create a world where every horse is valued, nurtured, and given a second chance to thrive, and where the unique bond between horses and humans inspires compassion, healing, and growth in individuals and communities.
North Winds Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses in need, while fostering meaningful connections that empower both horses and humans to thrive.
Salvation for Horses, Healing for People.
We are currently a completely volunteer run organization. No volunteers or board members receive compensation or benefits from our non-profit.

Join us for our second Resiliency Workshop!!
This year, we are thrilled to offer an extended workshop featuring a special guest, Dr. Israel. He is both an Executive Leadership Coach, and a Horse Trainer. Dr. Isreal has been coaching for 41 years and training horses for 25 years. He uses skill sets from both to bring people on a journey of transformation! This journey begins with remedial (find and remedy the blockages) and moves towards generative (create positive forward movement that stems from clarified purpose!)
Join us for a powerful workshop where horses guide us in healing, connection, and resilience.

Join us for our first Microchipping Event!!
Microchipping is a simple, life saving step that ensures every horse in our community is permanently protected.
Thanks to successful fundraising, the cost of the microchip is covered! Now, for just $45 (plus $2.00 processing fee) per horse, you can provide a lifelong protection - made possible by Irongate’s generous discounted rate of administering the microchip, saving $90 on each microchip to help protect the horses that mean so much to us.

Rescue. Rehabilitate. Retrain. Rehome.
We are a full circle of life open-door shelter which means we will take in any horse regardless of age, breed, training, background, or behavior. We believe that every horses’ life is valuable and they deserve a chance. When they arrive to us they are given a complete medical examination by our veterinarian to determine their quality of life, using the Five Freedoms as our guide. Together in coordinated effort with our veterinarian and farrier, and training team, we rehabilitate the rescued equine, bringing them back to sound body and mind., whenever possible. We take our time to retrain the rescue to the best of our ability at our facility; while we may use outside resources for inspiration or help, we do the retraining ourselves. When the rescue has been given the necessary resources to thrive, we carefully and thoughtfully rehome them to their forever home.
Get Involved
Saving horses doesn’t just stop at the North Winds Rescue facility. Our rescue will thrive because of generous people helping us along the way. You can be part of the transformation. Volunteers make a ‘hands on’ difference by helping with the day to day operations. If you are not interested in working directly with the horses, we have other volunteer opportunities as well. Our mission requires a variety of skill sets, we welcome all levels of assistance. Come to the rescue and meet us!
North Winds Rescue
Adoption Application
Everyone at North Winds Rescue is a volunteer. Because of this we need to work as efficiently as possible. Requiring an approved application ensures that you are at least seriously considering an adoption, as an option for your next horse.
PLEASE NOTE: Submitting your application does not obligate you to adopt a horse. It simply gets you pre-approved so that we can answer your questions and set up for you to meet the rescues, so we may evaluate the best fit.
North Winds Rescue

Saved For Life
All adopted horses become part of our “Saved For Life” Program per their adoption agreement. The program consists of an annually submitted form complete with veterinary records and photographs, as well as updates on progress and general welfare. It is our goal to always support our rescues and adopters long after they find their partnership. We want to ensure that that our rescues are cared for - for life.
If an adopter wishes to sell or transfer ownership of their adopted horse they are required to contact North Winds Rescue directly (info@northwindsequine.org) and a transfer contract will be provided. All new owners will become responsible for yearly Saved For Life updates moving forward.
Saved For Life updates are due by July 1st of every year.
